While hunting squirrel in Schaefferstown in Oct.,1986, Shawn Olena spotted an albino squirrel on a branch.
While hunting squirrel in Schaefferstown in Oct.,1986, Shawn Olena spotted an albino squirrel on a branch. Thought to myself what a great trophy. Shot the squirrel, retrieved it and showed it to my hunting buddy. He was quite impressed. Took the squirrel to the taxidermist- and he has been hanging on the wall since. Fast forward to November 2024 in Renovo, PA. Hunting with my brother in laws for turkey and grouse when the black squirrel showed up. I was looking for a black squirrel to go with my white one for a quite awhile to complete my collection, ever since seeing a black squirrel while deer hunting in Centre Co. I thought the two together would be a great show. Now I'm on a quest to get all the squirrels available in PA. I've gotten the hardest. Now I need to find the remaining squirrels, fox, a grey- grey squirrel and red squirrel.

At the age of 19, this is my biggest buck harvest of an 8 point in Union Co., PA. The first day of the season, 14 minutes into legal hunting time I pulled the trigger to let an arrow fly, hitting the mark thru the heart. The buck ran about 100 yards and weighed around 140 lbs.

October 19th 2024, at approximately 6:27 PM. While sitting on the ground, I saw something black about 50/60 yd in front of me steps off to my left, then comes back into view and walks right towards me. At that time I realized it was a bear. I slowly reached down, grabbed my bow, hooked my release and waited as the bear walked even closer towards me. The bear got about 10 yds, away turned slightly away when I released my arrow. The bear charged toward my direction and all I saw was black fur and white teeth. I grabbed a sapling and started to yell at the bear which got about 3 to 5 yd away, before it turned direction and ran towards a pipeline. A few minutes later, I heard the death moan. I marked my area and proceed to the vehicle to meet up with family members that I was hunting with at the time. We went back to the area where I had shot the bear and started to look for blood. There was no blood to follow, and while searching for the bear, our flashlights started to go dim. We decided to back out and return first thing the next morning. Within about 10 minutes of starting our search, I located my bear in the area where we had stopped the night before. The bear field dressed at 86 pounds. My bear was the first bear taken at our family's camp with a bow, and I first bear. This will always be a trophy to me.
